About Me

Me I've been an actor for over 40 years and I've performed in everything from Shakespeare to rock musicals but what impresses people most is that I once presented Play School and the fact that I'm one of the people telling you to "Mind the Gap" on London Underground! For the past 20 years I've been involved in recording audiobooks. I've reached 500+ (!) and if I didn't have a list of all those books I don't think I'd believe it! This website will concentrate on the audiobooks and will, I hope, answer most of the questions that I'm asked when I go around the country talking about what I do. How many books have you recorded? speaker

“Sometimes, rarely, you finish an audio book and wonder if you will ever hear such a perfect combination of voice, text, and mood again. Gordon Griffin won an award for his reading of Oxygen; I’m not surprised.........” Sue Arnold, The Guardian.

DEJA VU

In Frank Tallis' latest novel (Deadly Communion) that I recorded last week, one of the characters quotes Goethe's Erlking (refering to Schubert's setting of the poem). Lo and behold in the book I am currently preparing (The Missing Boy) by Rachel Billington and the missing boy's father Max also quotes the same lines- again in relation to Schubert's "thunderous" music. Deja vu!!!! (THE MISSING BOY by Rachel Billington (Soundings)

Hi Gordon. When you reach the 500 for your recordings will they reward you for the consistently high standard of your work as a Narrator? A bottle of Champagne perhaps to mark the occasion. And will this be a record the 500th recording of Audio Books

Gordon says:  Thanks Lois. I heard today that I have been booked for my 500th. I think I will probably open a bottle even if no one else does! A record? Yes. No one has recorded more - in Europe!!!

I always choose an audiobook read by you if unable to find one of my usual choice - whatever the subject or by an author I am not familiar with. This way I have discovered many new authors. I just wish that libraries would list audiobooks by their r... read more »

Gordon says:  Thanks Sue. Really appreciate your comments. It have heard your complaint so many times about the lack of information about narrators in catalogues; in fact, I will send your message to a publisher that produces a catalogue of audiobooks that doesn't even mention the readers at all! Thanks again!!!
